Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior representative commented the incident made him without words and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
